TWINS Education IGCSE Maths Tuition – Is Separating Twins Better?

TWINS Education maths tuition debate over whether twins should be separated or taught together at school has long been a source of contention. But according to a new study, there’s no strong evidence that separating twins is better for their academic performance – and in fact, teaching them together can be beneficial. The study, which was conducted by scientists from Goldsmiths, University of London, analysed 9,000 pairs of twins aged seven and 16 across schools in the UK and Canada, finding that both identical and non-identical twins who were taught separately or together showed similar levels of academic achievement. What’s more, the researchers found that the same heritability patterns applied to low mathematics performance as to normal variation in this subject.

The authors of the research also examined the underlying causes of low mathematics performance and found that students were not able to engage with maths lessons due to their lack of interest and the complexity of the material. In contrast, the students in this study who performed well at school were highly engaged and showed an ability to understand and use mathematical concepts in their everyday lives.
